Last 23rd October, the Vice-president of the Provincial Government of Cádiz, and responsible of Sustainable Development Department, Maribel Peinado, introduced with high satisfaction the GreenS Project, an initiative framed in the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 founded by EU.
The main goal of this project is to strengthen capacity of public authorities and workers to successfully apply innovative solutions on GPP by enhancing their ability to save energy, reduce CO2 emissions, and cost, with special attention to products and energy services.
The Project proposes the following actions: to set up a green’s products database, template of requirements for tenders Green Public Procurement criteria, training programs addressed to give specialized guidelines, knowledge and skills to public staff and authorities, life cycle analysis tools, guidelines about more efficient technologies use.
More specifically, GreenS Project foresees the implementation of 21 pilot experiences on GPP. APEC will give support and advice to public administrations in the Province of Cadiz regarding sustainable procurement criteria in public tenders.
The total grant amount of project is EUR 1.489.000 of which EUR 98.000 are assigned to APEC.
Incorporating sustainable procurement criteria allows public administrations to reduce the environmental impact of theirs activities, progressing toward sustainability goals, energy saving and greenhouse gases emissions, and reduce economic costs. Furthermore, Green Public Procurement is a useful tool for private companies in order to encourage their innovation and competence.
